Song of the Day: Working Class Hero, John Lennon - covered by Green Day
I woke today with this song heavily on my mind. The lyrics haunt me always. I come from a family of blue collar, Union workers, and I married a blue collar electrician, IBEW.
He was raised in the evangelical church. Scared (scarred?) by religion his whole young life.
How do you escape from it? You can run and run and it will still get you in the end, because you have to make a living. But who wants to live to work? We want to live to live, to be creative, to create - to not be driven by the almighty dollar, to be owned - bought and paid for.
And it's a recurring theme in our lives.
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill, right?
We're all trying our damnedest to fight our way out of here. Because whatever reality we're living in right now is scary as fuck. There's a megalomaniac running for president and a whole sect of people who will buy what he's selling, no matter what it is.
I don't know how to fix it. He doesn't know how to fix it. The frustration is real. The want to do something real. Something that actually fucking matters. To pick up the torch, and to carry it. We both know there is no winning this in any reality. But how do we make it count? What life we have left to live? To make it mean something, anything? We have to be brave. So, I put pen to paper. And, y'all, I can't lie to you. My life? It ain't pretty, as another song says. It's full of ugliness and mistakes and downward spirals, but when I decided it was time to put that fucking pen to this paper, there's no other option but to be as real and raw and honest, warts and all, right? Because I can't be anything other than myself. I cannot be a lie, because people will be able to tell. I want to reach people, this has to fucking mean something if I do this. And people know authenticity.
So buckle up. It's a bumpy fucking ride.
"....'til you're so fucking crazy, you can't follow their rules." Maybe, maybe that's the point. Because there are so many of us. I hope it's not too late - but I was told there are no more coincidences. And so, it begins.
....by the way, I know the design sucks, I'll deal with it, but I had to put "pen to paper".
